Maya Patterson – I Don’t Miss You Review

Antrim based indie-pop singer/songwriter Maya Patterson proves that she is one of the best acts to come out of Northern Ireland’s vibrant music scene with her sincere, honest, raw and addictive debut release ‘I Don’t Miss You’.

The 18 year old artist is striving to write music that is both authentic and shows off her versatility as a musician. Maya has been working on writing and recording her Debut EP and is working on a project that reflects her talents as an artist. This girl isn’t messing around during lockdown!
‘I Don’t Miss You’ tells the bittersweet story of a person who is in denial over their feelings for someone which makes the song a deeply resonating listen. (We’ve all been there with someone before!).

Maya was heavily inspired by her own relationships with people. The song tells the story from the perspective of someone who is apologetic for their wrongdoings but also arrogant in their stance. The song started off as a ballad but then developed into something much more grand as the production process was taking place. Maya wanted to show off her versatility and really challenge people’s expectations of who she is as an artist with her debut single. We think she’s just done the perfect job to achieve just that because this girl has completely wow’d us with this track. We are genuinely stunned!

Maya co-wrote the song with Villa In France lead singer Aidan Davidson and we’ve got to say, these two really come together to create the most perfect lyricism that really compliments the track. They prove that they are power houses when it comes to songwriting and producing heart-felt lyrics through their creative story-telling techniques:

“No it’s not fair but I don’t care, isn’t love just an accessory that I wear when I’m aware that what I’m doing to you”

“No I don’t miss you, I guess I’m just missing the feeling of someone to hold on to.”

Overall, ‘I Don’t Miss You’ is a powerful, emotional, captivating and heart-felt track with Maya’s rich and tender vocals taking centre stage. Patterson grips the listeners attention immediately as she opens the track with her impressive, stunning vocals that are almost Amy Winehouse like. Trust us when we say, this girl has got a highly impressive vocal range and knows how to sing!

Delicate and soft piano flow throughout the opening accompanying Maya’s vocals which really emphasise the mood of the song, creating a lot of depth that feels you with various emotions.

Sharp and edgy guitars create a slightly rocky feel being added to the track followed by crashing drums towards the bridge which created the most empowering energy. It almost feels like a release of finally letting that someone go.

This song is definitely a must listen for anyone who is in denial over their feelings for someone, sometimes we think we’re better off without someone and force ourselves to not miss them when deep down we know those feels are still there! Sometimes even the smallest things remind us of them at the strangest moments but after listening to this track, it really helped us get over that fuckboy that we could not stop thinking about!

Maya really knows how to perfect a sad banger and she has really outdone herself with this track, she proves that she is excellent at her craft both musically and lyrically and that she is set for stardom.
This song already has a feel to it that it is set to be played at sold out arenas with crowds holding their phones in the air.

After the first listen of this track, you won’t be able to get enough, Maya’s vocals will draw you in immediately wanting to hear more of her voice! The song is absolutely flawless from start to finish, it’s impossible to dislike it, this song knows how good it sounds! It’s a breath taker.
If you love a powerful ballad that is narrative and also filled with energy and explores themes of love, heartbreak, personal life lessons and self-empowerment then Maya Patterson is right up your street! Her ability to translate personal experiences into a universally resonating hit is out of this world. It’s such a beautiful track that you’ll wish that you’ve written it yourself.

We already can’t wait to hear more from Maya, she has certainly proven to be on track for a very promising and successful career in music. We can’t wait to catch her at a show when their back, we’re sure she’ll be worth the wait.
