Stop Shop EP - Review

Having released their debut EP just before the pandemic hit (Oh March 2020, no finer time to release your music eh?) Irish duo, Stop Shop have been on our ones to watch list! Although they didn’t release the EP during a good time for music, this is certainly a very promising EP that sets very high expectations on what the band could be capable of achieving once the live music world gets back up and running again.

Overall, the duo’s sound and style consists of a various mixture of sounds. Elements of electronic and rock echo throughout, they’ve got some really sharp, edgy and gripping guitar solo’s going on as well as some fantastic drum fills that we can only imaging would create some unbelievable energy and atmosphere at a live show. They also have elements of acoustics going on in the EP also, especially in their tracks ‘Time Of Our Lives’ and ‘Ticket Man’ which is a beautifully written and catchy acoustic track which we feel is the stand out track on the EP, it’s just purely gorgeous and reminds us of a song you’d play on a train as you go on a summer adventure through the Irish countryside and admire the scenery! It’s a truly majestic and magical tune that is soft, chilled and laid back with fantastic harmonies.

The EP is a very adventurous one as it explores a variety of sound which show’s off the bands capability of experimenting with different genres. It’s a very enjoyable listen throughout however, some tracks are quite lengthy and you might find yourself getting a tad bit lost but other than that, the EP is still a very pleasurable and captivating listen filled with various emotions. A stunning EP overall.

For a band to release it during such a difficult time, we think it’s pretty impressive for a debut EP, we already can’t wait to hear what’s next for this duo. Be sure to keep an eye on them!
