Luke Watterson - Cold & Dry Review

Luke Watterson is an up and coming Irish singer/songwriter who is based in Belfast. He released his debut single ‘Cold & Dry’ late November last year. Luke has an intense raw, high and low vocal range bringing a diversity all across his creative flow. At just 16 years of age, he learnt to play guitar after being hugely influenced by the likes of Kurt Cobain, Ray Charles, Angus Young and Gary Moore.

After graduating, Luke spent some time travelling across Europe and playing in flats, bars, festivals and radios and even worked with other artists all across the world. This guy has got some great experience and we’re sure he’s also got some fantastic stories to tell.

His debut single ‘Cold & Dry’ has been a huge favourite of ours lately and we’ve been streaming it a lot over lockdown. The track opens with a soft and delicate piano which really sets the mood of the song before Luke’s beautiful raw, honest and emotional vocals come in. The piano paired with Luke’s heart-strung vocals as well as some elements of strings echoing throughout really makes the track impossible to dislike.

This song knows how good it sounds! It is a simply, calm, soft and laid back track that is absolutely stunning and highly impressive for a debut release. Both beautifully written and very well produced. It is emotional and captivating both musically with the addition of the strings really adding the emotion to the track and lyrically as Watterson shows his incredible ability to tell a heartbreaking story throughout his lyrics. They are completely heartfelt as he tells a heart-breaking story about missing a past lover and wanting to try things again, it is a deeply resonating tune.

“Oh how I missed you, could you please lay down beside me, I’m cold, I’m dry and I can’t get you off my mind".

“I catch the tears when you cry and turn your face away, start searching, keep searching for me”.

Overall, it is a stunning and empowering track with hauntingly raw, honest and beautiful vocals accompanied by piano and strings that really help capture the emotion of the song, a fantastic release from Luke Watterson so a huge well done to him. It’s a lovely, soothing listen that is soft on the ears. He has an incredible talent and we highly recommend checking him out, we already can’t wait to hear what he has got planned next, keep an eye on this guy!
