Somebody's Child Interview
We
had the pleasure of Interviewing new upcoming Dublin Artist Somebody’s child. Frontman Cian took our online interview during these strange times and talked us
through his inspirations, background, advice and even when we can expect new
music!
Somebody’s
Child has received a lot of success having supported the likes of Kodaline,
Kaiser Chiefs and even played some of the biggest festivals including Electric
Picnic as well as a stunning performance on RTE’s Late Late Show. They have
charted 13th in the official homegrown Irish Charts with over 20m impacts on
radio and almost a million streams.
MusicBox
PR constructed these online interviews for artists to participate in to help
them promote themselves and introduce the artist to a wider audience during
these unprecedented times.
Tell us who you are?
Somebody’s
Child.
What was the inspiration behind the formation of your band?
Writing
music was all I ever wanted to do in life, so my goal was to be a songwriter
for others. As I learnt more about the industry it became apparent that it’s
difficult to make a name as a songwriter if you’re not an artist first, so I
started releasing music and the music needed a band so here we are. I’ve fallen
in love with performing now as well which is great!
Can you remember the first time you wrote a song and what was it
about?
It
was more so just a melody I think on the piano. I found it amazing how that’s
how all songs are written pretty much, and how I had just made it from nothing.
What was the first CD/Vinyl you ever bought?
The
first one I owned was the single Toxic by Britney Spears. I got it free
somewhere along the way. I cherished owning it, but sadly her music didn't last
long in me.
Do you have any other hidden talents outside of music?
I
speak French, but that’s less of a talent and more of an interesting fact!
What was the first song you learned to play on an instrument, if
you play one?
It
was probably a classical piece as I started off doing grades on piano.
What is your favourite song to perform?
The
single off the EP we’re about to release, Hold Me Like You Wanna. It’s probably
my favourite song to listen to as well.
What was your craziest experience on tour?
We
haven't had too much touring experience but I’ve really loved getting to know
the band during that time. It’s quite a draining yet intimate experience for
everyone.
If you could invite 5 musicians dead or alive to dinner who would
they be?
Hendrix,
Mozart, Turner, Lennon, Dylan.
Has your music evolved since you started making music?
Definitely.
Everything evolves as you grow older.
Do you have a record label and are you a member of any music
organizations?
We
are in very positive talks at the moment and collection societies, yes.
If you could change anything about the music industry what would
it be?
For
people to speak it like it is more.
Have you been to any concerts within the last year that have
inspired you?
The
Strokes at Electric Picnic last year.
How do you handle mistakes during a performance?
Carry
on.
Who is your favourite Irish artist at the moment?
Fontaines
DC.
If you could have your fans remember one thing about you, what
would it be?
My
passion.
How are you dealing with the current impact of COVID-19 as a
musician/band?
We’re
learning new ways to engage with fans and taking the time to write.
What is your feel-good song to distract yourself from hard times?
At
the moment, All The Wine by The National. Quite a fitting name too!
Can we expect any new music from you soon?
Yes,
we will have a new release out in May!
Is there any advice or insights you would like to give to anyone
reading this who would either like to pursue a career as a musician or within
the music industry?
Be
patient and work hard at your craft. Simples!
