Lisa Keane - Crown of Thorns Review

Lisa Keane is a Dublin based singer/songwriter. Following her graduation from BIMM Dublin in 2019, Lisa has spent the past few months writing and recording new music in hope of releasing 3 singles this year. Inspired by artists such as Maggie Rogers, HAIM, Taylor Swift and Dermot Kennedy, she blends elements from different genres to create her sound. Her new single “Crown of Thorns” was recorded and produced by Adam Redmond in Flaked Studios.

Lisa released “Crown of Thorns” on May 1st and her stunning, haunted vocals in this track certainly proves that she has got a lot of potential to further her career as an artist. She is also, certainly an artist that is on our one’s to watch list. Overall, the track is a very emotive, calming and captivating summer tune as her music blends together creating the perfect way to ease in to your day. The track opens with laid back piano chords that remind us of The 1975 instrumentals. Lisa’s honest, emotive and chilling vocals then come in which creates the most perfect chilled summer tune. Her influences can be easily heard throughout the duration of the track creating an almost indie-pop like anthem for the summer playlists. “Crown of Thorns” is certainly a track that we will be listening to as we wind down in the back garden on a warm summer evening.
Her unique voice tells the emotional story of a heartbreak with her elegant lyrics and soft sound impacting the listener. It is a very honest song with lyrics such as “I may have won the battle but he won the war” leaving an emotional impact on the listener with her storytelling techniques throughout her lyrics.

Overall, we felt that Lisa’s song was very powerful, emotional, chilling but also bittersweet as she reflects on a past heartbreak but also shows strength in her voice. It is certainly a song that a lot of people can relate to. Her unique voice creates a beautiful track that is very easy to listen to, stunning and impactful. It is fair to say that Lisa is certainly an exciting female vocalist in Ireland at the minute with a very bright future ahead of her. We already can’t wait to hear more music from her!
