Sparks Single Review

Stolen City is a three-piece indie/rock band from Dublin. Consisting of members Sean McGrath, David McCabe, Ian Bailey. They broke onto the Irish music scene back in 2017 and they’ve since released an EP and numerous singles. They are known for the spirited performances they produce on stage. Having played festivals like Indiependence, Electric Picnic and selling out Academy 2 and Upstairs Whelans, these lads have made an impression on the Irish music scene. Radio stations such as Spin 103.8, iRadio and Classic Hits 4fm have given airplay to their music, while they’ve got over 2000 monthly listeners on Spotify. They are building good momentum and have an expanding fan base across Ireland, which leads us to believe that they have a bright future ahead of them.

Stolen City just dropped their new single ‘Sparks’ which is a feel-good song about a young romance. The song reflects a fresh sound for the band, seeing a shift towards pop music compared to the indie sound of their previous releases. This song is the perfect song for radio airplay and almost seems like they planned it with that in mind. Sparks gives off summer vibes and was released just in time to be added to people’s summer playlists.

The song came together after the lads reflected on their teenage years and realised after a short while they all had the same concept for the song. Speaking about the song, Dave said, “It was weird how we all had the same idea, and strange how easy it was putting the song together”. With Sean coming forward and providing lyrics for it and Ian and David giving ideas for the Piano and Drum sounds, the single got off to a brilliant start. Since being released on the 8th of May, the song already has over 1000 streams on Spotify and we predict that figure to continue rising.

We expect these lads to have an excellent future ahead of them in the Irish music scene. When COVID-19 ends and live music starts up again we anticipate that their fan base will continue to develop as they have the chance to expand their audience through gigs and festivals. We recommend giving ‘Sparks’ a listen and checking out their music.

‘Sparks’ is available to stream on all major streaming platforms now.
